How to “Spring Clean” your Mindset!

I’ve gotta be honest: last week was HECKIN’ HARD on my mindset. 🤯 But if there’s one thing I know about mindset, it’s that opposition always gets worse before a breakthrough. It feels like the perfect time to wrap up our “spring cleaning” series, with some tips on how to Spring Clean your Mindset!

If there’s ONE thing you need to know about mindset… it’s that MINDSET. IS. EVERYTHING. It affects your relationships, your home, your work, your life… it affects All. The. Things. So if you’re feeling the need for a good “spring cleaning in your mindset, I’ve got a few tips for you:

  • REFRESH YOUR IDENTITY:

    As I’ve been reading James Clear’s “Atomic Habits,” he talks about how our identity is at the ROOT of how we create better habits. This made me realize: There’s some work to do when it comes to some of our CHOSEN identities. I always have my clients pick their “Top 3-5,” (Learn more about the Top 3-5 here!) We can allow poor identities to creep into these important areas of our life. The good news is, you can CHOOSE your identity! You can choose to let go of the identities that are holding you back. Instead of “I’m a Hot Mess,” you can choose “I am in charge of my life.”

  • START BUILDING EVIDENCE:

    Your brain doesn’t like “gaps” in information. This means that when you choose a new identity, your brain is going to STRUGGLE to believe it. You need to start building evidence to prove that your new identity is TRUE. (This is why I don’t love affirmations — they are often wildly aspirational, and our brains literally CAN’T believe them!) Building evidence in your brain happens when you KEEP YOUR PROMISES to yourself, and when you create Positive/Neutral truth statements to help your brain bridge the gap. Instead of “This is going to take Forever!” try, “This won’t take long!” and time yourself to prove just how quickly it would be.

  • START NOTICING YOUR MINDSET:

    This is really the beginning stage of mindset work: learning how to NOTICE your mindset. I’m not gonna lie, it’s HARD once you start, because, you can’t unsee them. But I promise — it’s worth it. This is where it gets fun, because… I want you to go to Target with your best friends. 😆 I want you to notice what your friends say about themselves as they pick out/try on clothes. I can almost guarantee that you’re going to start noticing the way they speak about themselves. The fun part is that YOU get to build them up and encourage them! Tell them they look gorgeous. Remind them of who they’ve been created to be! The more you start to notice their mindset blocks around body image, the more you’ll start to notice YOUR mindset blocks about EVERYTHING.
