Kate and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad July.
Have you ever read the book “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day”? I read it as a kid, and I’ll admit — I don’t remember much of the plot line… except that Alexander had a very bad day. 😜
Anyhow, that is how our July went. Life kept sending one HUGE thing after another… to the point that Alex and I just kept looking at each other asking, “What in the WORLD going is on?” Here’s a run-down of what happened in July:
Our family car got CREAMED by someone driving by our house. It was completely totaled. 😩
We borrowed a vehicle from my parents, and it got a flat tire the day after they brought it over. 😑
We had an issue in our basement that required an ENTIRE day to fix. ☹️
I was leaving my parents’ house, and the brakes went out on the borrowed SUV. 🤯
I lost my chronic illness medication (actually, pretty sure they got stolen)… and going off those meds cold turkey was AWFUL. 😭
I don’t really have a great outcome for this (yet). We’re still looking for a new car, so we’re down to one vehicle, and it’s going to take awhile for my body to regulate again after almost a week off my medication.
If anything, this past month has reminded me that life is MESSY. Like… SUPER messy. And sometimes there’s nothing we can do about it. 🤷🏻♀️ Here’s what I’ve found to be most helpful in the past few weeks of this RIDICULOUS messy life (so I can stay intentional through it all!):
To be honest, I don’t have some perfectly packaged “3 things that worked” list to share with you. I’ve mostly just been… trying to show up. Continuing to work on all the small, daily things that are making life better (chores, routines, all the unglamorous stuff)… while still holding onto the bigger dreams I have and continuing to build an intentional life — even though life feels like a Hot Mess.
But one thing has helped me stay grounded through all of this: Journaling.
Throughout July, I kept leaning into the journaling prompts I use all the time… the ones that keep me focused on the vision of the life I’m trying to build, and that help me take my big dreams and turn them into bite-sized (doable!) pieces.
If you’re in a messy season too, (I hope it’s not as messy as my July!), these prompts might help you as much as they’ve helped me. 💛 Get the prompts here.
Welcome to my Blog!
I’m Kate — Wife, Momma, & Wonderment Chaser. I’m here to share sneak peeks into my life… including the good, the bad, and all the messy in-betweens. I hope this space inspires you to pause, reflect, and chase your wonderment!

July felt like one long “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad” month. It was one thing after another, with no neat resolution in sight. In the middle of all the mess, I kept coming back to something simple…
